Now that my baby is five months old, I figured it would be a good time to write up a post about what I packed in my hospital bag for my natural birth. When I went into labor with my first child, everything happened really fast and I didn’t even have a bag packed. My husband had to rush home and grab some things after I was admitted to the hospital. So with my next child, I knew I wanted to be more prepared. Even with August being born five weeks early, I had a good idea of what I wanted it my bag so I still felt prepared.
After having a completely medicated birth with Chet, I knew I wanted my next birth to be completely natural- which meant the items packed in my bag needed to support that. I’m so thankful for all the items I packed and I really feel that all these things played a big part in my perfect birth.
If you’re having a natural birth- or even if you’re not, I hope you find this list helpful!
cotton jersey robe, love this one
comfortable sweat pants or shorts (depending on the season, I love these)
boy shorts (for laboring in the tub)
nursing sports bras (these are my fave)
nursing tanks, I love these
v-neck cottons t-shirts (the best for postpartum and for nursing! I love these)
moccasins or slippers (depending on the season)
Something to labor in (if you’re not using a gown- I labored in sweat pants and a sports bra and then I stripped down during transition.)
Soft bath towel: I was constantly in and out of the tub during labor and I hate the rough towels the hospital provides!
Maternity leggings: great for after delivery and going home, I love these
Cardigan: hospitals are always so cold and I love a soft cardigan to keep me warm and cozy. Get my fave cardi here.
claraderm (this is a must for postpartum recovery! I started using it at 30 weeks and I used it a few times a day after birth to help heal my lady parts.)
any make-up you may want, especially if you’re taking any photos! I love Savvy Minerals Make-up.
lip balm (a must during labor!)
You can read about my skin care routine and which products I use here.
nux vomica (this helped so much with postpartum nausea + nausea during labor)
chamomila: to keep me calm and alleviate my anxiety
labor roller (copaiba, lavender, marjoram, idaho balsam fir, juniper, frankincense, helichrysum, valor- recipe below)
This is a list of all my oils that I brought and used. You can read about them in my post about using oils for labor + delivery, here.
smooth move herbal tea: let’s just say I much prefer this to colace and it doesn’t have any side effects 🙂
ningxia red pouches: these gave me the extra energy I needed!
honey sticks: these make great snacks throughout labor and help maintain healthy blood sugar levels
coconut water: for extra electrolytes
protein bars: for after baby is born and you’re starving. These are my fave.
favorite non-toxic shampoo + lotion. I use this.
non-toxic diaper cream, this is THE best diaper cream ever + totally plant based.
swaddle blankets, these are my favorite.
going home outfit
burp cloths: these are my absolute fave to use for burp cloths and are so absorbent and soft.
